Hippo Document translations

Tobias Jeger
Hi Hippos,

On CMS 7.7, I would like to copy the translation of a HippoDocument (to the translation of a folder).

At the HST bean abstraction level, I wonder how to retrieve the translations of the HippoDocument.
The current code successfully retrieves the translations of a HippoFolder bean using

bean.getChildBeans("hippo:translation");

However, this does not work for a HippoDocument bean, I suspect because the document bean "points" to one of the
workflow-based variants, while the translation node is attached to the document's handle node at the JCR level.

Can you recommend how to retrieve the document's translations?

thanks

Tobi

Re: Hippo Document translations

Tobias Jeger
I'm sorry, I should have been more clear: This is about the hippo:translation of the document/folder names, not the document content.
Hope I didn't create too much confusion...

Re: Hippo Document translations

HippoBean has

 /**
     * This returns the localized node name of the backing jcr node
for this bean. If it is a {@link HippoNode} is returns {@link
HippoNode#getLocalizedName()},
     * otherwise {@link Node#getName()}
     *
     * @return the localized node name of the backing jcr node and
<code>null</code> when some {@link RepositoryException} happens
     */
    String getLocalizedName();

Is this not what you need? That also works for folders...You do not
need to use the translation nodes yourself. It is part of HippoNode
api

localizedName = ((HippoNode)node).getLocalizedName();

I don't understand yet. You speak of HippoBean, but the code and comment says HippoNode...?

Re: Hippo Document translations

marijan milicevic
Hi Tobias,
Ard is talking about implementation detail,

method:
org.hippoecm.hst.content.beans.standard.HippoItem#getLocalizedName
calls:
org.hippoecm.hst.provider.jcr.JCRValueProviderImpl#getLocalizedName

public String getLocalizedName(){
        if(localizedName != null) {
            return localizedName;
        }
        Node node = this.getJcrNode();
        if(!(node instanceof HippoNode)){
            localizedName =  getName();
            return localizedName;
        }
        try {
            localizedName = ((HippoNode)node).getLocalizedName();
            return localizedName;
        } catch (RepositoryException e) {
            throw new RuntimeRepositoryException(e);
        }
    }

cheers

Re: Hippo Document translations

Tobias Jeger
ok, this kind of solved the issue.

The API seems somewhat strange though, as (I believe) a folder or document can have multiple localizations,
but the function only returns a single one, and it is not entirely clear to me how it determines which one to return
in cases where there are several localizations. In my particular case, there's only one localization, so I'm fine.

thanks

Tobi
