Re: How to remove a channel from CMS

Tobias Jeger
Hi Pankaj,

Once a resource has been bootstrapped into the repository, removing the corresponding entry from the
hippoecm-extension.xml file will only have an effect when you bootstrap a fresh repository from your
adjusted bootstrap data. Doing so, you should be careful not to lose changes you made to the repository
in the meantime. You may want to read up on the automatic exporter functionality [1], which helps you keeping
repository content and bootstrap data in sync.

If you do not want to re-bootstrap, you'll probably end up deleting all content and configuration that you don't
want using the console. Regarding the configuration part, /hst:hst/hst:hosts would probably be the appropriate
place to start such a journey.

cheers

Tobi

Hi,

All channels shown in the CMS correspond with a node under /hst:hst/hst:channels. If you remove the channel's node there, the channel won't be shown in the CMS UI anymore.

Of course a channel will have more configuration and/or content, which can be removed too if you want to get rid of the channel completely:

1. the channel's mount under /hst:hst/hst:hosts (e.g. a '/fr' mount for a French channel).
2. the channel's site nodes under /hst:hst/hst:sites
3. the channel's HST configuration under /hst:hst/hst:configurations
4. any channel-specific content under /content (e.g. a specific translation, or content specific for a certain sub-site)

Only step 1 is really necessary, as it ensures that visitors can no longer access your channel. Steps 2-4 remove redundant configuration and content from your repository.

hope this helps,
Mathijs

Did you start with a clean repository, or did you reuse an existing one? Or to put it simpler: what is the command you use to start your project? (probably "mvn -P cargo.run ...." etc.)

As Tobias already mentioned, deleting XML snippets from your bootstrap module won't magically delete nodes in an existing repository; you'll have to write some updater or JCR runner code for that, or manually remove the nodes using the console (http://yourhost:8080/cms/console).

best,
Mathijs
